Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio
Alexandra Rose Raisman was born May 25, 1994. She retired as an American artistic gymnast. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she was awarded a gold medal in the team competition with her co-teammate Gabby Douglas the sole Americans to have back-toback team gold medals. Raisman also earned silver in the individual all around and floor exercises. Raisman received silver medals for the individual all-around, and also for the floor exercise. She is also the two-time champion of national floor exercise (2012,2015) in 2012, and the 2012 national champion on the balance beam, and five times medalist at the national championships in all around (silver in 2016, and silver in 2012, 2011 (2012), and in 2013 and 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on the 25th of May, 1994, in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), an ex-high school gymnast, and Rick Raisman. She is the mother of three younger siblings, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and says that "I am very grateful for being able not only to represent the U.S.A but as well the Jewish Community across the world." "Raisman started gymnastics when she was 18 months old. She attributes her early enthusiasm for the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold medalists of the U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics, whose performances she observed on VHS.She took classes at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through Level 8 when she transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman completed her studies at Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year online and was training for the Olympics.
